SEWANEE, Tenn. – Junior Alex Keller’s (pictured)
goal in the 67th minute of action on Friday gave Southwestern the
2-1 win over the sixth place Sewanee Tigers. With the win the
Pirates improve to 6-9 on the season and 2-5 in the SCAC while
Sewanee falls to 8-8 overall and 4-4 in conference action.
Southwestern took control of the match early when senior Josh
Spencer found the back of the net in the 10th minute, giving SU the
1-0 lead. The Tigers evened the count at one a piece just before
halftime on a corner kick by Schlosser that was headed in by
Maxey.
The game remained an even contest until Keller’s goal in the
67th minute. The Pirate defense held Sewanee to just eight shots,
including four in the final period, and sophomore goal keeper Nick
Pierce’s three saves helped give SU the 2-1 victory.
Southwestern logged ten shots and three corners to the
Tigers’ eight shots and five corners.
The Pirates remain on the road for conference action at Oglethorpe
on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
