Crusaders drop Saturday's game to Colorado College

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team dropped Saturday's game to Colorado College, 70-52, at the Maher Center. The Crusaders (3-16, 1-11 SCAC) struggled shooting most of the game and found an early deficit too much to overcome.

Colorado College (12-8, 8-5 SCAC) led the entire game starting with a two from Rosie Braley in the first 12 seconds of the contest. However, the Tigers did not build a double-digit lead until towards the end of the first with a 14-4 display. Braley also had that layup with 11 seconds left. The visitors poured 28 points in the second quarter thanks to 13-21 (61.9 percent) shooting to extend the margin to 42-21 at intermission.

Dallas battled in the second half as the team was outscored 14-13 in the third quarter, and then scored its highest total in the fourth with 18 points and held a four-point advantage. Beyonce Perry (Lake Jackson, Texas) tallied eight points with a perfect 4-4 effort from the field in that frame.

She led the team with 15 points in the game. Freshman teammate Madi Horne (Paradise, Texas) followed with 14 points. The top scoring tandem combined to lead the squad with eight rebounds apiece. Gracie Williams (Midwest City, Okla.) tossed in nine points, while Alissa Dutton (Houston, Texas) grabbed seven boards. Panda Houseworth (Farmersville, Texas) dished five assists, while Horne had the other four to combine for UD's nine.

Dallas shot 29.2 percent overall in the game. Both teams made six three-pointers, and the Crusaders did manage to draw 20 fouls and got to the line that amount of times. They also had nine steals that helped lead to 16 turnovers on Colorado College. UD held an 8-7 edge on points off turnovers.

McKenzee Gertz paced the offense for the guests with 17 points. She added eight rebounds and three assists. A quartet of starters for CC reached double-digits for points, which included a double-double from Braley with 11 points and a game-high 12 boards. The Tigers grabbed 62 rebounds with 24 on the offensive glass. They had a 38-20 edge for points in the paint and 19-12 advantage on second chance points.
