The Southwestern women's tennis team went 2-2 at the SCAC Championships in Little Rock, Ark. over the weekend to finish in sixth place.
The Pirates opened the Championships with a 9-0 routing of Hendrix. SU dominated in doubles matches, not allowing the Warriors to threaten and continued to roll through the singles matches.
The win advanced Southwestern to face Sewanee in the next round. SU was unable to secure a win in the match as they fell 9-0 to the Tigers.
The loss dropped the Pirates into the consolation bracket to face Austin College. SU was able to avenge a loss earlier in the season. The key to the win was SU's domination in doubles matches. Jessica Gaines and Elyse Bigler won 8-6 as did Lali Satyavada and Victoria DeLeon. Aimee Blake and Sara Fitzsimmons were in full control of their match, winning 8-4 to put the Pirates ahead 3-0. Southwestern secured the 5-4 match win with two wins in singles matches. DeLeon took down Goddard 6-1, 6-4 in the #1 slot while Bigler easily handled Lewis 6-1, 6-0 in #2 singles.
Southwestern advanced to the fifth place match, taking on Rhodes. Southwestern won one of the three doubles matches as Blake/Fitzsimmons defeated Kato/Phipps 8-4, but the Pirates were held to just one singles win as the fell 7-2.
Southwestern closed out the season with an 11-9 overall record.
