Berardino Lifts CC Past Trinity In Overtime

Box Score Justin Berardino scored eight of his career-high 25 points in overtime as Colorado College defeated Trinity University, 70-65 in overtime, on Saturday night at Reid Arena.

With the score tied at 60-60, Berardino hit a three-pointer from the right wing with 2:18 remaining, and after TU tied the game at 65-65 on a trey by sophomore forward A.J. Pulliam with 56 seconds to go, Berardino calmly sank three free throws 32 seconds later to put CC ahead for good.

Trinity had a chance to get within a point when Nik Oakes was fouled, but the freshman guard missed both free throws. Berardino was hacked after he grabbed the rebound, and he iced the game with a pair of free throws with 13 seconds to go. The junior guard capped the night by grabbing the rebound of freshman guard Brian Blum's three-point attempt seven seconds later.

TU's Jimmy Clark sent the game to overtime when he hit a three-pointer from the top of the arc as time expired. The junior guard finished with 20 points.

The visitors pulled to within 53-50 when Blum intercepted an outlet pass and dished to Pulliam, who canned a three-pointer from the right sideline with 1:28 remaining.

Pulliam cut Colorado College's lead to one with an off-balance layup with 23.5 seconds to play in regulation, but junior forward James Lonergan sank a pair of free throws with 11.8 seconds to go.

Junior swingman Luke Winfield gave the Tigers a 48-38 lead with 5:12 remaining when he nailed a three-pointer from the top of the key with the shot clock running down.

Trinity caught a break when senior forward Chris Lesnansky was called for a foul off the ball just as Pulliam made a jumper from the elbow, but after sophomore forward Josh Ingram made one of two free throws, Berardino sank two of three at the other end to give CC a 50-43 lead with 3:56 to go.

Lesnansky finished with a game-high eight rebounds to help Colorado College post a 36-27 advantage on the glass. He also added seven points.

Pulliam led Trinity with 22 points. Freshman guard Matt Jones dished out six assists and grabbed three rebounds.

CC plays its final road games of the season next week at Austin College and the University of Dallas on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
