Women's Soccer Team Drop Thriller in 2OT

Richardson, TX - The University of Dallas women's soccer team lost their season opener 3-2 in a thrilling double overtime game against the University of Texas at Dallas.

The Crusades got on the board early as freshman Britney Zapata scored in the 5th minute to open the game.

The Comets answered back in the 19th minute as Sofia Munoz scored off an assist by Stephanie Ward.

UTD took their first lead of the game at exactly 10 minutes into the second half as Bella Granada put one in the back of the net to make the score 2-1.

Dallas then tied the game at 2-2 when freshman Claire Reed nailed a shot from outside the box just under the crossbar.

The first overtime was fairly even as the Crusaders outshot the Comets 2-1 for the period.  In second OT however, UTD put Dallas on the back foot as they led in shots 4-0, which included a game-winning, golden goal by Rana Hussein on an assist by Kelsey White.

Zapata, Reed, and sophomore Andrea Coppi each had three shots apiece.  Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Vess had 10 saves in the contest.

Munoz had four shots in the game and Sierra Foster led all players with five shots.

As a team, UD was heavily outshot by UTD 27-10 and 13-5 in shots on goal.  UTD was whistled for more fouls at 7-3, but Dallas did have more corner kicks at 2-1.

With the loss, Dallas drops to 0-1 (0-0), and with the win UTD improves to 1-1.  The Crusaders will be back in action on Monday, September 6 with a road game against LeTourneau University.  Game time will be at 5:00 PM CST.
