CC Ties Program Record with 12th Straight Win

The Colorado College women's lacrosse team tied the program record with its 12th consecutive victory as the Tigers cruised to a 20-2 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Senior Night at Washburn Field.

The only other time CC opened a season with 12 straight wins was 2004 when the Tigers advanced to the regional final of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.

Sixteen different players scored at least once for No. 21 Colorado College, which reached the 20-goal mark for the third time this season.

Sophie Murphy, Lauren Pejza and Maggie O'Donnell each scored twice and dished out a pair of assists for the Tigers.

With the third assist of her five assists, Eva King became the 21st player in program history to record 60 or more points in a single season. She finished the game with 62 points, which already ranks 18th on the single-season list with at least seven games to play.

King also climbed into fifth place on the single-season list with 30 assists this season.

Allie Thuet struck for the first of her two goals 38 seconds into the game after taking a feed from Rachel Sheridan.

Sheridan doubled CC's lead 3:45 into the contest off a feed from Murphy.

In her final regular-season appearance at home, Nikki Blair notched what proved to be the game winner a little less than five minutes expired.

Sophomore goaltender Alena Stern scored her first collegiate goal on a free-position shot with 15:42 remaining in the first half to give Colorado College a 9-0 lead.

Twenty six seconds later, Madison Tulenchik put the Wildcats on the board with the first of her two goals.

Murphy ignited a string of 10 consecutive scores with a pair of goals during the final 12 minutes of the first half, including a behind-the-back marker with 9:22 to play before halftime.

Bella Beattie produced three caused turnovers and three ground balls to lead CC's defensive effort. She also scored once and set up another goal.

The Tigers launched 40 shots, compared to only six for JWU.

Colorado College also won 19 of 23 draw controls and posted a 21-10 advantage in ground balls.

Senior Olivia Steiner, who played the first 10:02 in goal, picked up her first career victory.

Sarah Stamp played the final 49:58 and stopped one shot for the Tigers.

Trinity Gooden, who did not have a save during the opening 5:29 in goal, absorbed the loss for the Wildcats.

Brigid McCollam made nine saves during a little more than 50 minutes of action for Johnson & Wales.

Colorado College travels to the Twin Cities this weekend for games at Augsburg University and Hamline University on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, respectively.
