Crusaders drop SCAC Game at Texas Lutheran on Friday
SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team dropped a road Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) game at Texas Lutheran University, 79-53, on Friday night. Dallas (3-11, 1-6 SCAC) was held to 28.6 percent shooting from the field, while the Bulldogs (7-8, 5-3 SCAC) hardly missed by going 50 percent (28-56) overall at behind the three-point line (9-18).
Texas Lutheran posted an early advantage with the first 14 points to start the game, while the Crusaders were held to just a pair of trifectas by Beyonce Perry (Lake Jackson, Texas) and Alissa Dutton (Houston, Texas) in the final 32 seconds. It was Dutton's first trey of her collegiate career. Dutton was feeling good from downtown as another one late in the second quarter cut the score to 36-24. However, the Bulldogs would go into halftime up 37-24.
Despite the slow start in the contest, Dallas only trailed by eight at the end of one and a layup by Jules Oliveti (Southlake, Texas) kept the visitors within single digits (16-8) until TLU's Cami Davis drained consecutive triples to spark a 12-3 scoring swing. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with a 25-11 third quarter scoring edge.
The Crusaders matched a scoring high of 18 in the fourth period and outdid TLU by one.
Perry and Vanessa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas) tied game-highs in scoring with 11 points each. Perry made three trifectas and Diaz was 5-6 from the free throw line. Panda Houseworth (Farmersville, Texas) also had double figures with the help of five free throws. Dutton chipped in a career-best eight points from the bench. Diaz was the leader on the glass with five boards. UD had one less turnover (16-15).
TLU held a 43-25 edge on rebounds and had 14 offensive boards. The Bulldogs were up 12-5 in second chance points and 32-10 on points in the paint. Dominique Campos netted a game-high 15 points, while Davis and Abby Hroch contributed 11 points each. Hroch paced TLU with eight rebounds. Tara Molina had eight dimes. 15 players entered the game for TLU and all-but two scored points.
