
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Southwestern University women's tennis team defeated the Colorado College Tigers 8-1 in an away match on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles, Nina Mitrofanova and Taylor Despriet defeat Olivia Dicks and Magdalene Gonzales 8-3 at the No.1 spot. "Taylor served well and that really helped her get a couple of routine wins today," says Head Coach Billy Porter.
Esther Bowers and Nina Elez bested Keelie Bennett and Gigi Jensen, 8-1 playing at No. 2 spot. Alli Ziehm and Mariana Quetzeri beat Elizabeth Girian and Malia Rivera, 8-5 at the No 3 spot.
In singles, Mitrofanova, playing at the No. 1 spot, defeated Gonzales 6-2, 6-3. "Nina M had a good day today and didn't try to do too much. She adapted to the conditions well," says Porter.
Bowers bested Bennett 6-4, 6-3 playing at the No. 2 spot and Elez defeated Jensen 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. "Esther's found a way in singles with a tricky player and I thought her doubles was solid," says Porter. Despriet bested Girian 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot, and Sydney Wahl defeated Rivera, 6-2, 6-3, while Ziehm defeated Dicks, 6-2, 6-4.
Southwestern women's tennis improves 6-3 in the season and 4-0 in conference play. Women's tennis will travel back to Georgetown to take on the University of the Ozarks at home on Tuesday, March 23 at 4:30 PM.
