Crusaders fall at Colorado College; Horne and Williams lead Scoring Effort

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Dallas women's basketball team was defeated 78-49 on Saturday at Colorado College. The Crusaders (3-7, 1-3 SCAC) fell for the second time in as many days on the road trip, as Colorado College (8-5, 4-2 SCAC) claimed a double-digit lead through 10 minutes and never looked back in the conference victory.

Down 21-10 through one quarter, the Crusaders worked to keep the deficit manageable and pulled within single digits on a couple of occasions. A three-pointer by Gracie Williams (Midwest City, Okla.) made it 27-18 with 5:35 left in the second period, and then a jump shot by Madi Horne (Paradise, Texas) cut the score to 27-20 two minutes later. Dallas would trail 33-20 at intermission.

The duo of Horne and Williams were responsible for the first 26 UD points in the contest. A layup by Alissa Dutton (Houston, Texas) was the first points recorded by a player besides the top two scorers in the game for the guests.

The Tigers pushed the gap to 26 with a 29-13 scoring advantage in the third quarter and cruised the rest of the way.

Dallas shot 25.9 percent (15-58) from the field, 31.6 percent (6-19) from three, and 76.5 percent (13-17) from the free throw line. Horne led all scorers with 22 points and added five rebounds. She was 8-9 at the charity stripe. It was the freshman's second performance to surpass 20 points and was two off of her career-best at University of the Ozarks (Nov. 26).

Williams tossed in 15 points to match a season-high and had five boards. Jules Oliveti (Southlake, Texas) had another top rebounding performance on the team with eight off the glass. Oliveti also turned away a career-best five blocked shots, which counted toward UD's season-best of six.

Colorado College shot 40.7 percent (33-81) overall but struggled from long-range with 7-28 shooting (25.0 percent). The Tigers held a 53-40 edge on total boards with 18 offensive rebounds. The Tigers dominated in most categories but were particularly dominant in the paint with a 36-10 advantage. They also had a 15-9 edge in points off turnovers and second chance points.

McKenzee Gertz led the team with 18 points. Tedy Reed followed with 17 points from the bench thanks to 3-5 three-point shooting. Reed also led the team with seven rebounds. Jordan Meltzer rounded out the trio of players in double-digits for points with 15.
