SHERMAN, Texas – McMurry University Swimming took on Austin College in a dual Friday night, but both teams fell to the Kangaroos. The men dropped a 178-79 decision, while the women fell 157-61. The War Hawks also took on Colorado College, as the meet was scheduled as a double dual. The McM men were defeated 233-46 and the women, 235-34.
In the women's 200-yard freestyle, freshman Molly Herrera posted a sixth place finish, hitting the wall in 2:12.36. Sophomore Alec Satre also placed sixth in the same event for the men, finishing in 1:57.44. Hererra also finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:50.26.
Freshman Madelaine Smith had a third place showing in the 100-yard backstroke, coming in with a time of 1:09.40.
Satre posted a strong performance in the 100-yard breaststroke, as well, taking fourth in 1:08.85.
Sophomore Ethan Sykes posted the top finish of the night for the McM men, placing second in the 200-yard butterfly. He finished with a time of 2:07.93. Sykes had another second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:11.89.
Senior Jessica Gryder claimed a top five finish in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing fourth. Her time of 27.70 seconds was less than half a second behind third. McM achieved a top five in the men's 50-yard freestyle, as well, with freshman Terrin Boehmer taking third in 23.33 seconds, narrowly missing second.
Satre claimed a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, tapping in with a time of 52.15 seconds.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, another second place showing was put in by Boehmer, coming in at 2:29.63.
Boehmer and Sykes placed fifth and sixth in the 100-yard butterfly, in 57.56 and 57.69 seconds, respectively.
The War Hawks will close the 2019 portion of their schedule December 6-7 at the Hendrix Invite.
