Tigers Perfect in Record-Setting SCAC Title

Led by defending individual champion and SCAC Runner of the Year Elliot Singer, the Colorado College women's cross country team won its second consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team title and third in the last four years Saturday morning in Georgetown, Texas.

The Tigers captured the top nine spots in the race, the first time in SCAC history, to earn the first perfect score of 15 points since Trinity University in 2013. No team has ever had the top nine finishers in SCAC history. Trinity finished second with 50, followed by Texas Lutheran University in third with 95.

Singer, a sophomore from San Francisco, Calif., finished the 6K race with a time of 22 minutes, 55.2 seconds, nearly 23 seconds faster than senior teammate Clare Quinn. Singer is the first repeat winner since CC's Leah Wessler in 2015 and '16.

"We were focused on executing a really good team race, and we definitely accomplished that," Singer said. "Working together made all the difference on a tough, hilly course, and I'm very proud to be a part of what our team did today."

Freshman Ella Fullerton finished third in 23:18.3 to earn SCAC Newcomer of the Year honors, while junior Jane Mallach was fourth (23:18.5) and freshman Alison Mueller-Hickler fifth (23:19.5). Senior Na'ama Nevo (23:20.3) and sophomore Sydney Rankin (23:23.7) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Nevo won the league's Elite 19 award, given to the all-conference performer with the highest grade-point average. She has a 3.92 GPA, majoring in mathematics.

Sophomore Britt Helgaas (8th/23:27.2), senior Dafna Williams (9th/23:28.5), freshman Liz White (11th/23:32.8), freshman Brooktie Frogge (12th/23:35.0) and sophomore May Lamb (14th/23:35.9) also earned all-SCAC honors.

"We came in as the favorite, but the way our team won was incredible," head coach Alex Nichols said. "First through ninth was totally unexpected. It just shows how good this team can be as we head into championship season."

The Tigers return to action at the NCAA Division III West Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Spokane, Wash.
