Texas Lutheran outlasts Hardin-Simmons in five sets in San Antonio

 
SAN ANTONIO -- At Trinity University, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs collected a five-set non-conference victory Friday against Hardin-Simmons University.
 
The Bulldogs rallied from a 2-1 set deficit.
 
TLU won 25-19, 23-25, 15-25, 25-20, 15-12.
 
The fifth set was tied at 12-12, but an HSU attack error and then two consecutive kills from Cailey Young gave TLU the victory.
 
The Bulldogs improved to 19-15 overall. HSU dropped to 12-11.
 
Young led TLU with 12 kills, and Bryten Mitchan added 10. Young hit .417 for the match.
 
Kacie Hall and Jaci Chambers recorded nine and seven kills.
 
Chambers dished out 22 assists and had 21 digs, and Lexi Morris served five aces.
 
Morris registered 33 digs, and Peyton Sulak and Mitchan tallied five and four blocks, respectively.
 
TLU hit .131 for the match and held HSU to .057.
 
The Bulldogs head to Belton, Texas on Saturday for non-conference matches against Mary Hardin-Baylor (noon) and Concordia Texas (6:30 p.m.).
 
Saturday's matches will be the final tune-up matches for the Bulldogs before they host and play in the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. The tournament runs Nov. 8-10 in Seguin in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium.
 
TLU, the No. 6 seed, faces No. 3 seed Southwestern at 6 p.m. Friday night in Memorial. The winner advances to play No. 2 seed Colorado College in the 2:30 p.m. Saturday semifinal.
