Tigers Edge Southwestern University

Two Colorado College swimmers and one diver won two events each on Sunday afternoon to lead the Tigers to a 157-134 victory over SCAC foe Southwestern University at Schlessman Natatorium.

In the first home dual meet against a league opponent in three seasons, junior Walker Martin captured the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races, while sophomore Cade Thumann won the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle. Junior Casey Block took first place in both diving competitions.

Martin won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.08, nearly two seconds faster than Thumann, who finished second. Martin then touched first in the 100 freestyle in 48:64.

Thumann, meanwhile, cruised in the 200 butterfly, winning by more than six seconds, and posted a 5:06.90 in the claiming the 500 freestyle, followed by freshman Will Barber in second with a time of 5:13.80.

Block was solid in the diving portion of the meet, winning the 1-meter with a score of 265.95 and the 3-meter with 227.85.

Other winners for the Big Cats on Sunday were freshman Topher Shepherd (1000 freestyle), sophomores Julian Frerichs (200 backstroke) and Cole Thumann (200 IM) and senior Eric Dallesasse (100 butterfly).

What Head Coach Anne Goodman James Said:
"After a tough day yesterday, we came in with a little low energy this morning, but I have to credit our team, they really turned that around and did an awesome job today."

"Our focus was racing, not times. We turned in some very gutsy swims to get this victory. Southwestern won the 2019 SCAC Championships, so it was fun to get a win over such a strong team. This was an excellent start to the season."
