CC extends winning streak to 10

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Colorado College extended its winning streak to 10 matches with three-set victories over St. Olaf College and Knox College at the Associated College of the Midwest Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman outside hitter Abbe Holtz and sophomore outside hitter Emily Phillips each recorded double-doubles to lead the Tigers to a 25-14, 30-18, 25-22 victory over St. Olaf College in the first match of the day.

Holtze paced the attack with 14 kills and hit .387 with only two errors on 31 attempts. She added 10 digs and a pair of blocked shots on the defensive side of the net. Phillips finished with 10 kills and 10 digs to reach double figures in both statistics for the fifth time this season.

Sophomore libero Sophie Merrifield led the defense with 19 digs, while sophomore setter Devon Lucero had a hand in six blocked shots to go along with her 10 digs and 34 assists.

The Tigers closed out the day with a 25-8, 25-12, 25-13 win against Knox College for their ninth sweep in 10 matches.
Junior defensive specialist Julia Lawton dealt a career-high seven aces to help CC record a season-high of 17.

The Colorado College offense hit a season-high .342, with sophomore middle hitter Kaimara Herron (.714) and junior middle hitter Kristen Liberty (.667) leading the way. Herron finished with five kills on seven swings and Liberty converted on four of six attacks. Neither committed an error.

Holtze led the offense with eight kills, while sophomore opposite hitter Courtney Birkett added six.

Merrifield had a team-high 11 digs, reaching double figures for the ninth time this season.

The Tigers wrap up the 2013 ACM tournament on Sunday with matches against Beloit College and Lawrence University.
