Men's Soccer Takes 3-1 Win Over Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA.  –  The Southwestern University men's soccer team sealed the last regular season win over the Centenary Gents Sunday afternoon.

Ashton Bynum, Michael Glode and Fernando Garduno-Jaramilo all took action in their last season game and scored three of the goals against Centenary.

At the beginning of the game, Garduno-Jaramilo was set up by Bynum to score the first goal with ease only 18 minutes into the game. Shortly after, Bynum scored the next goal unassisted to give Southwestern a bigger lead over Centenary. The Gents tired to answer back by shooting nine shots at the Pirates goal, but none got past goalie Jack Viles.

Starting the second half, the Pirates were quick on the attack and continued to press the Gents defense with two shots taken on the goal within the first two minutes of the half. This lead to Michael Glode scoring a goal unassisted after a Pirates corner kick to spread the lead even further. However, Centenary's  Andres Bautista quickly answered back Glode's goal by scoring a goal for the Gents which would get Centenary on the board. But the Pirates defenses put up a strong front to prevent the Gents from scoring any more goals to end the game 3-1. The Pirates ended their regular-season record 10-6-2 and 4-4-1 in conference play.

Bynum, who has contributed five goals and three assists this season, has been a core part of the Pirates offense as well as Glode, who scored four goals, and Garduno-Jaramilo, who scored two goals this season.

Up next, the Pirates will get ready to travel to San Antonio to compete in the Southern Athletic Collegiate Conference (SCAC) Championships hosted by Trinity University November 8-10.
