Celts Fall to Pirates In Game 1 of SCAC Series

Celts Fall to Pirates In Game 1 of SCAC Series

Baseball dropped the opening game with the Southwestern Pirates this Friday Night. After nine hard fought innings, the Celts lost 12-9.

It was the Pirates who struck first in the home half of the first inning as they scored three runs to open the game. With the deficit 3-0, Mason Seay answered the call with a RBI double to score Leo Galvan. However, Southwestern responded with a seven run third inning to make the score 10-1. When it seemed like the game was over though, St. Thomas tried to claw their way back into the game. Jeffrey Williams sparked a two run fifth inning, then in the seventh the Celts scored five runs to make the score 10-8. From there, Southwestern needed insurance and got it with two runs in the eigth inning. With the score now 12-8, it was enough to put away St. Thomas as any late game heroics were stopped by the Pirates.

Up next, baseball continues their SCAC series against Southwestern. First pitch for game two is scheduled for 1 PM. Follow ustcelts.com for all scores and updates.
