Celts Split the Day Against McMurry

On this Friday afternoon, the St. Thomas Celts split the day against McMurry. After dominating the Warhawks in game one 12-0, they were edged 6-5 in the return match heading into game three tomorrow.

Game One: UST 12 MCM 0

St. Thomas wasted no time in asserting their dominance, scoring two runs in the first inning. Jarod Smith drove in Kyle Bearden with a groundout, and Dillon McKee followed up with a solo home run.

The third inning proved to be explosive for St. Thomas, as they piled on five more runs. Mason Seay started the scoring with an RBI single, followed by another three-run blast from Dillon McKee. Adam Benavidez joined the home run parade with a solo shot of his own, extending St. Thomas' lead to 7-0.

In the fourth inning, St. Thomas continued to pile on the runs, with Mason Seay driving in two more runs with a double, and Dillon McKee adding another RBI single to his impressive tally.

St. Thomas' pitching staff was equally impressive, with starter Landon Murray tossing five scoreless innings, allowing only six hits while striking out one. Dominick Garza and Nick Alumai combined for two innings of shutout relief to secure the win.

 

Game Two: UST 5 MCM 6

McMurry got off to a strong start in the first inning, scoring three runs thanks to a RBI single by Riley Hood and a couple of wild pitches that allowed runners to advance and score.

St. Thomas responded in the second inning with a solo home run by Joseph Sanchez, cutting McMurry's lead to 3-1. However, McMurry extended their lead in the third inning with Nolan Scherencel's RBI triple.

McMurry added two more runs in the fourth inning, courtesy of Blake Beach's two-run single, bringing the score to 6-1 in their favor.

St. Thomas mounted a comeback effort in the later innings, scoring two runs in the sixth inning with a two-RBI single by Austin Schwarz. They continued to chip away at the lead, scoring another run in the seventh inning on Alex Trinh's RBI single.

In the eighth inning, St. Thomas capitalized on a passed ball to score another unearned run, bringing the score to 6-5. However, they couldn't complete the comeback, falling just short of tying the game.

Despite the loss, St. Thomas showed resilience and fought until the very end.
