TLU Baseball shuts out Schreiner, 3-0

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran baseball shut out Schreiner, 3-0, in the series opener on Friday at Katt-Isbel Field. The combination of Joe Burch (Geronimo/Navarro) and Blade Strzelczyk (San Antonio/East Central) pitched the Bulldogs (27-11, 16-3 SCAC) second shutout of the season.

Joe Burch pitched eight and one-third scoreless innings with six strikeouts. He allowed six hits and gave up one walk. Strzelczyk relieved Burch in the ninth inning to collect the final two outs and pick up his SCAC-leading eighth save of the season. Strzelczyk ranks in the top-20 nationally in saves. Burch improves to 7-3 on the season and raises his strikeout total to a SCAC-leading 76 on the year.

Randy Huerta (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Payton Dahl (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Texas Lutheran waited until the middle innings to strike offensively - getting on the board in the fourth inning after an infield single from Payton Dahl scored Alec Sanchez (Waxahachie/Waxahachie). Tyler Post would add another Bulldogs run in the fifth on an RBI single to right field to score Randy Huerta. An RBI single from Huerta in the sixth would bring the game to its final score of 3-0.

Texas Lutheran will conclude their regular season against Schreiner with a Saturday doubleheader at Katt-Isbel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM and 3 PM. Prior to the 12 PM game, Texas Lutheran will honor its three seniors: Nick Gardoni (Salinas, Calif./Ruiz (CA)), Hayden Mundy (Deer Park/La Porte), and Logan Fisher (Thorndale/Thorndale).
