Accetta Leads Tigers to Third Consecutive SCAC Title

Led by first-time SCAC Runner of the Year Kendall Accetta, the Colorado College women's cross country team won its third consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team title Saturday morning in Seguin, Texas.

The Tigers captured the top four spots in the race and placed nine runners on the all-conference team. Colorado College finished with 16 points, followed by Trinity University with 43 and the University of St. Thomas with 90.

Accetta, a senior from Portland, Ore., won the race in a time of 23:13.62, 10 seconds ahead of runner-up and two-time defending champion, junior teammate Elliot Singer, who covered the 6K race in 23:23.47.

"The team did a really great job working together during the conference race today," Accetta said. "We all packed up and pushed each other to be better, which led to both the team win and a 1-4 finish. I'm feeling confident going into regionals and nationals, both as an individual and for the team."

Sophomore Alison-Mueller Hickler finished third in 23:46.11 and freshman Willow Lott in fourth (23:50.53) to earn SCAC Newcomer of the Year honors. Sophomore Ella Fullerton placed sixth in 24:01.19 to close out the scoring for the Tigers.

Sophomore transfer Sky Theodosopoulos (9th/24:04.52), sophomore Liz White (10th/24:04.90), freshman Charlie Flint (11th/24:05.90) and freshman Mary Cate Kiser (14th/24:22.92) also earned all-SCAC honors.

Singer was named this year's recipient of the league's Elite 19 award, which recognizes the all-conference performer with the best grade-point average, for the second straight year. She has a 3.96  GPA majoring in general studies.

"Our team worked together in the first part of the race then opened things up in the second half," head coach Alex Nichols said. "It was great to see so many runners finish in all-conference positions and bring home team another win. We're looking forward to carrying this momentum into the rest of the championship season."

The Tigers return to action at the NCAA Division III West Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 11, in Riverside, Calif.
