The Colorado College men's and women's swimming teams each opened its 2018-19 season Friday with a dominating victory over Centenary College in Shreveport, La.
The Tiger women won, 141-57, while the men captured a 137-67 triumph.
Junior
Jio Chang led the women with wins in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly and was a part of the winning 400 medley relay team.
Freshman
Maddie Amick was impressive in her first collegiate meet, winning the 400 IM and 500 freestyle races.
Other winners for the women were junior
Selma Jukic (100 freestyle), sophomore
Emileigh Rafidi (200 breaststroke) and freshman
Key Macfarland (1000 freestyle), while Chang, Jukic and Rafidi joined freshman
Ana Mashek on the 400 medley relay.
On the men's side, sophomore
Walker Martin captured the 100 and 200 freestyle races and was the anchor for the victorious 400 medley relay squad.
Junior
Michael Heinonen captured the 1000 freestyle event, while sophomore
Baker Casagrande (50 freestyle) and freshmen
Cade Thumann (400 IM),
Cole Thumann (500 freestyle) and
Julian Frerichs (200 backstroke) also won an individual event on Friday.
"This was a really fun experience today to see this new team compete," head coach
Anne Goodman James said. "We showed a great competitive spirit and I was very proud of the intensity at the finish of our races. Our freshmen showed that they are going to be a force on our team."
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20 with a three-way meet against Centenary and Hendrix College.
