Tina Mangola, Cassie Gaye each homer as No. 10 softball wins pair

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern softball team earned two more wins to finish the Maryville Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record on the weekend.
The Polar Bears defeated host Maryville (Tenn.) 10-7 in the first game Sunday morning and then defeated Centre (Ky.) 4-3 in a rematch from Saturday later on Sunday afternoon.
Northern improves to 11-1 on the season and has won eight games in a row.
The Polar Bears were led by senior Tina Mangola who scored five runs while batting 3-6 in both games.
Mangola and sophomore Cassie Gaye each homered as the Polar Bears topped Maryville.
Senior pitcher Courtney Cash moved to 7-1 on the season after earning the win against Maryville after giving up only two hits in three innings.
Sophomore Maggie Molnar picked up a save by pitching four innings in releif.
Gaye 3-for-3 and belted her team-leading third home run of the season as Northern fought off a furious 7th inning rally by Maryville to win 10-7.
The second game was a rematch of Saturday's game against Centre.
Sophomore Lauren Hurd earned her first win of the season by pitching three scoreless innings. Hurd only allowed one hit to shut down Centre.
Offensively, Tina Mangola scored two of Northern's four runs, including the game winning run in the top of the sixth.
Sophomore Jackie Mangola also scored a run while going 3-4 in the game.
Sophomore Lauren Hurd (1-0) picked up her first victory of the season with three shutout innings of releif work on the mound.
The Polar Bears will look to keep their winning streak alive as they travel to Anderson (Ind.) on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm double-header.
