Women’s Tennis Dominates at Home

GEORGETOWN, Texas – In their spring home opener the Southwestern women's tennis team destroyed Howard Payne University on Saturday afternoon, winning 9-0 and never allowing more than four points in a single set.

Jessica Gaines and Eleyse Bigler set the tone with a #1 doubles win over Crunelle/Davis 8-3 and Lali Satyavada and Victoria DeLeon followed suit winning 8-4 over Emerson/Guerrero in #2 doubles. Aimee Blake and Kristina Krampitz dominated the final doubles match 8-1 over Turnacliff/Stephens to start Southwestern up 3-0.

The strong play of the Pirates continued as singles matches got underway. Bigler easily handled Crunelle 6-1, 6-1 in #1 singles while Gaines handled Emerson 6-4, 6-2 in the #2 slot. Satyavada controlled Davis in the #3 singles, holding her without a set point 6-0, 6-0.

Blake continued the winning ways for Southwestern with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Guerrero and Sara Fitzsimmons took down 6-0, 6-4 to continue the sweep. Kindall Hogenson made it a reality, taking down Stephens 6-0, 6-2 for the 9-0 Pirate win.

The win is the first for the women this spring as they sit at 1-3 on the season. They remain at home to host Schreiner on Friday and LeTourneau and Texas Lutheran on Saturday.
