Stopforth Helps CC Dispatch Centenary

Box Score Three first-half goals were all Colorado College needed to extend their winning streak to seven games and maintain their position atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings.

The Tigers struck three times in a little less than 11 minutes to post a 3-1 victory over Centenary College on a blustery Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field. CC improved to 8-1-2 overall and a 6-0-1 in the conference.

Freshman defender Cam Stopforth had a goal and an assist, while senior midfielder Max Grossenbacher set up a pair of goals to fuel the victory.

Senior midfielder Seth Newby put the Tigers on the board midway through the first half with a shot from five yards to the lower right after working a clever give-and-go with Grossenbacher.

The Tigers struck again just 2:26 later when junior defender Nathan Andersen found the upper left corner with a header off a corner kick by Stopforth.

Stopforth scored his first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute when he one-timed a pass from Grossenbacher into the top right corner.

Grossenbacher, who extended his point streak to five games, leads the team with 17 points.

The Gents scored with 2:59 remaining in the first half when senior defender Jake Morrison found the net with a header off touches from senior defender John Vasquez and senior midfielder Michael Pullano.

Colorado College compiled a 28-5 advantage to total shots and a 10-0 margin in corner kicks.

With a decided territorial advantage, CC was able to substitute freely and utilized a season-high 22 players.

Sophomore keeper Theo Hooker made one save

Junior keeper Rylan Whan stopped six shots in the first half. Sophomore Kaleb Behm made a pair of saves during the final 45 minutes.

Centenary dropped to 2-9-0 overall and 1-7-0 in league play.

Colorado College returns to Texas next week for games at Schreiner University on Friday, Oct. 9, and Trinity University on Sunday, Oct. 11.
