MIDLAND, Texas – The McMurry University swimming teams both came out on the short end of the team scores in a non-conference dual meet at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The War Hawks women's team lost to the Falcons, 171-56 and the men fell, 172-52, at the City of Midland Aquatics Center.
In all, McM won three events. Two of those were by senior women's team member
Robyn Remschel, although neither were her two "specialty" events: the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes. At UTPB, Remschel won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 28.79 seconds and then put in some distance work by winning the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.07).
On the men's side, the lone winner was
Jeremiah Atkins. Atkins grabbed the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle, touching in a time of 2:15.67 minutes.
Other top women's placers included
Jessica Gryder, who was second in the 100 freestyle (59.37) and fourth in the 50 free (27.47).
Mariah Rhoades was third in the 100 freestyle (59.57) and senior
Katie Gorka finished third in the 500 freestyle (6:04.75).
Senior
Zandria Rodriguez managed a third in the 50-yard butterfly (29.58) and was fourth in the 50 breaststroke (35.45), as well.
On the men's side,
Jerick Pena posted a runner-up finish in the 50 backstroke (26.46) and was also third in the 50 freestyle (23.20).
Brayden Miller was third in the men's 500m freestyle (5:36.18 minutes).
Austin Gombas was the runner-up in the 50 butterfly (27.94).
