Women's Soccer Earns Another Shutout Victory
HOUSTON -- The Southwestern University Pirates women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to defeat the St. Thomas Celts 3-0
 
Southwestern kept even pressure throughout, producing nine shots in each half and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks in the first. 
 
St. Thomas goalie Jordan Thompson kept the Celts alive with four saves in the half, keeping the match scoreless at the break. 
 
Alexis Guajardo put the Pirates on the board a little under three minutes into the second half, grabbing a rebound just inside the penalty area and finding the back of the net from 16 yards out for her eighth goal of the season. 
 
Southwestern's next two goals came in quick succession with Alexis Barrientez finding Juliet Pridgen for the second goal at the 74:50 mark and Whitney Whitehill scoring an unassisted goal, cleaning up a rebound off a Samiah Varnell's shot for the 3-0 lead. 
 
On the other end, Southwestern goalie Mary Cardone kept the box score clean with four of her six saves in the second half, preserving the Pirates' 10th shutout of the season. 
 
With the win, the Pirates improve to 14-4 on the season and 5-2 in conference play. Southwestern will travel to Louisiana to face Centenary on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 12:00 p.m.
