Foley nets 20, but CC falls at Trinity

For the first time this season, someone other than Colorado College is leading the Western Division of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Trinity University took advantage of Colorado College's foul trouble and escaped with a 66-56 victory on Friday night at Sams Gymnasium. TU, 12-10 overall and 9-5 in the SCAC, moved a half game in front of CC, which is 12-10 overall and 8-5 in the conference.

Trinity avenged a 69-54 loss in Colorado Springs on Dec. 31 to split the season series.

Freshman guard Nick Foley led the visiting Tigers with a season-high 20 points, making four of six attempts from three-point range to match his personal best.

Despite playing most of the second half without All-America candidate Nick Rose, the Tigers whittled a 15-point deficit with 14:54 remaining to five points on two occasions.

Rose went to the bench with 15:32 to play after being called for back-to-back fouls just 12 seconds apart. After subbing in and out depending on possessions, he picked up his fifth foul with 6:59 to play, just 18 seconds after CC pulled to within 50-45 on a pair of free throws by Ian Rewoldt.

Rewoldt, who ended up with four fouls, finished with 14 points to reach double figures for the sixth time this season. Ryan Milne added eight points and a game-high four assists

Luke Caldarera had a team-high 16 points for TU, going 5-for-13 from the field and making all six of his free throws.

Trinity converted on 19 of 24 attempts from the charity stripe, while Colorado College sank eight of 12 tries. CC was called for 22 fouls, compared to only 13 for TU.

Colorado College made up some of the difference by making eight of 16 shots from behind the arc.

CC faces a must-win situation when it travels to Southwestern University on Sunday.
