Austin College Men Fall to St. Thomas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team fell to the University of St. Thomas 4-0 in the team's final match of the season on Sunday, as the Celts put three goals in the back of the net after halftime to put the 'Roos away in the second half. The 'Roos finish the year with a record of 2-14, including 0-8 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Celts got on the board early as Luis Bencomo found Daniel Castro for a tally in the 12th minute of action to make it 1-0, but the 'Roos would clamp down defensively to keep St. Thomas from scoring again before the break. However, it took just 54 seconds into the second half for the Celts to double their margin, as Castro found Juan Gutierrez for a goal to make it 2-0, and Castro would get his second goal of the game when Gutierrez returned the favor eight minutes later. St. Thomas would tack on one more goal in the 70th minute, as Ian Alvarez scored on a feed from Jair Perez to make it a 4-0 final.

The Celts held a 28-9 shot advantage in the match, with Connor Tullis making nine saves for Austin College. Rodrigo Lazo stopped both shots he faced in net for the Celts.
