Colorado College senior
Katie Sandfort shattered the school record in the 10,000-meter run Friday night at the KT Woodman Track and Field Classic in Wichita, Kan.
Sandfort won the race in a time of 36 minutes, 41.69 seconds, nearly a full minute faster than the previous record of 37:38.33, set last season by teammate Alyssa Warling.
"Katie is having a phenomenal senior year," Colorado College distance coach
Alex Nichols said. "We knew she was ready for something special this weekend based on her recent races and workouts, but Katie delivered a performance that went beyond anyone's expectations. Now that she has this time under her belt she is set up for an even more exciting finish to the year."
Fellow senior
Allie Crimmins finished seventh in the 10K with a time of 39:11.94, while junior
Kelsey Maxwell was 17th in 41:52.90.
Senior
Leah Wessler also collected a point for the Tigers with an eighth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 18:20.53, while fellow senior
Emiko Smukler finished 16th in 20:25.60.
Sophomore
Leah Veldhuisen finished 12th in the 1,500-meter race in a time of 5:02.82 and Smukler was 18th in 5:10.99.
