Softball swept the undefeated McMurry Warhawks this Friday afternoon. The Celts edged the Warhawks 1-0 in game one, before breaking out the bats and taking game two, 10-1. 

Game 1: UST 1 MCM 0

From the first pitch, it was a battle in the circle as Bailey Tisdale would not let the Warhawks claw their way into this one. After a quiet first inning from both teams, it looked like McMurry would be the first to strike with two hits in the top half of the second. Yet, the St. Thomas defense held and did not let the Warhawks score. From there, Tisdale and her Celt defense did not allow any Warkhawk hits, as the only times they touched base were from two errors. When it looked like extra innings was on deck for both teams, Celeste Luna hit a clutch sacrifice fly that brought home Lindsey Gonzalez in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 1-0 victory.

Game 2: UST 10 MCM 1

Freshman Allison Hughes got the start in this one and did nothing but showcase her skills in the circle. Limiting the Warhawks to just four hits, Hughes got a plethora of run support from the offense to run-rule McMurry in five innings. St. Thomas opened up the scoring with two runs in the first inning. McMurry responded with a run of their own in the second and cut the deficit in half, but that would be all they could score. The Celts only added to their lead with a four-run second inning, powered by a 3 RBI Addison Lehew double. St. Thomas secured victory in the fourth inning as a Grace Torres single brought home Chloe Bennett and the game-winning run that made the score 10-1.
