Crusaders and #22 Pirates Fight to a Stalemate

GEORGETOWN, Texas - In a match that had serious postseason implications, the University of Dallas women's soccer team fought the #22 ranked Southwestern Pirates to a 0-0 draw in this afternoon's conference fixture.

Though the scoreline is not always indicative of the run of play, today's final score was in on way deceiving, as the match could have easily gone either way.  The Pirates may have perhaps had the slight edge on their home pitch, outshooting the Crusaders 20-15 in 110 minutes of soccer, but the Crusaders defense did what they have done all year long; keep the ball out of the back of the net.

It took a valiant effort from the entire back line, including Kaitlyn Vess between the sticks with nine saves, but the Crusaders were able to keep their eighth clean sheet of the season.  Currently sitting in fourth place in the SCAC standings, the Crusaders occupy the final postseason slot for the conference tournament.  Though they have the least amount of goals scored among the top four teams, they are also tied for the least goals allowed, having only beein scored against three times in five conference matches.  They are tied with the current conference leaders, # 21 Trinity, in this metric.
