Red-hot Rangers shoot down Tigers

Regis University shot just under 64-percent from the floor during the second half and pulled away for a 71-57 victory over Colorado College on Tuesday night Denver.

Nick Rose scored 20 of his game-high 26 points during the first half, but the Tigers still trailed 37-29 after 20 minutes.

Colorado College pulled to within 49-42 when Brady Ohlsen completed an old-fashioned three-point play with 12:41 remaining in the game.

The Rangers responded with an 8-2 run during the next 2:43 to open a 13-point advantage with 9:48 to play and the Tigers never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.

CC made just one of nine three-point shots in the second half to prevent any kind of sustained comeback attempt from taking place.

Rose scored eight points during the opening 4:21 to help the Tigers jump out to 14-6 lead when Brady Ohlsen scored two of his 10 points 6:55 into the contest.

Regis answered with 11 consecutive points, seven of which were scored by Curtis Mitchell, during a span of 3:52.

Colorado College battled back to tie the game at 25-25 on a pair of free throws by Rose, but Lance Korell hit back-to-back three pointers to ignite a 12-4 run that saw the Rangers build a 37-29 advantage after 20 minutes.

Ian Rewoldt scored a career-high 11 points for the Tigers, making four of five shots from the floor and all three free-throw attempts.

Mitchell and Korell scored 16 points apiece to lead Regis, while Steve Ledesma chipped in 10.

Colorado College begins Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend with games at Hendrix College and Millsaps College on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
