Southwestern rushes for 367 yards in 35-0 win at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas – Southwestern exploded for four second-half touchdowns and earned a 35-0 victory over Austin College on Saturday at Apple Stadium.

The win secured the Pirates (5-3, 4-0 SCAC) at least a share of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship.

Southwestern rushed for 367 yards and five touchdowns in its second shutout of the season.

Dylan Wilburn tallied 143 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, while Frederick Hover carried the ball 17 times for 105 yard and two scores, all in the second half.

The Pirates held a 7-0 lead at halftime, thanks to Wilburn's seven-yard run in the first quarter.

Hover entered the game in the third quarter and immediately led the Bucs on a 75-yard drive, capped by his three-yard run, which doubled the lead to 14-0.

The sophomore quarterback added a 15-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

After Nik Kelly intercepted a pass and returned it 44 yards, Wilburn punched it in from a yard out, giving Southwestern a 28-0 lead with 11:41 to play.

Devin Shaw capped the scoring with 5:45 left in the game, as the first-year running back rushed three yards around the right end for his first collegiate touchdown.

The Pirates limited the Kangaroos (2-6, 0-4 SCAC) to only 163 yards, including just 59 on the ground.

Brandon Fleischmann led the defensive surge with 10 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, and two sacks. Kyle Perlowski added eight stops, including three behind the line scrimmage, and a half-sack, while Justin Broussard logged six tackles, including a half-sack, and recovered a fumble.

Southwestern picked off two passes in the victory. In addition to Kelly's third interception of the campaign, Tanner Rogers picked off Tad Howard's pass attempt in the fourth quarter and returned it 22 yards to the Austin College 33-yard-line.

The Pirates will return to Georgetown to host rival Trinity for Homecoming next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Birkelbach Field. Prior to the game, the Bucs will honor their senior class.
