Schreiner edges St. Thomas 1-0 in overtime

KERRVILLE, Texas – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas are still in search of their first road victory in Southwestern Athletic Conference play after falling 1-0 in overtime Sunday at Schreiner.

Schreiner's Dani Loeblein put a sudden end to Sunday's contest when she scored five minutes into the first overtime to give the Mountaineers (5-7-2, 1-2 SCAC) their first victory in conference play in 2019.

The Celts (4-5-1) fell to 1-2 in SCAC play with the loss.

The abrupt ending to Sunday's match proved to be a reversal of fortune for the Celts, who controlled the pace of play for most of the contest. The Celts outshot their hosts 22-6 in the match and took 14 shots in the second half alone.

UST's Katarina Maksimov (SR/Richmond, Texas) took nine shots in the match, including four on goal. Her best chance may have come in the 63rd minute, when she fired two shots in a 12-second span, one of which was saved by Schreiner goalkeeper Maddie Saucedo.

Celts goalkeeper Olivia Futch (SO/Katy, Texas) made two saves in the match.

The Celts return to action Friday, Oct. 18, when they visit Centenary (La.). Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Shreveport.
