Mallory Nets Game Winner as CC Blanks Dallas

Another day, another shutout victory for the Colorado College men's soccer team.

Sophomore midfielder Will Mallory struck for his first collegiate goal midway through the first half and the CC defense did the rest in a 1-0 win at the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon.

With their third consecutive victory, the Tigers improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

"The guys played a courageous game," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We have been decimated by injuries, but the team has embraced the 'next man up' philosophy and we played a very strong game."

Mallory picked up a misplayed clearing attempt near the top of the 18-yard box and slotted a shot inside the near post late in the 24th minute.

It proved to be the only shot Colorado College put on target during the game. However, the Tigers earned five corner kicks and allowed just one.

"We played an excellent all-round first half and then scrapped to the finish line," Palguta said. "It was another total team effort."

CC's Keller Mochel made two saves while recording his third clean sheet of the season and the sixth of his career.

Since conceding a penalty kick goal in the second overtime against the University of Texas at Dallas, Mochel and the Tigers have not allowed a goal in 270 minutes.

The Junior goalkeeper lowered his goals-against average to 0.71 and improved his save percentage to .842.

The Crusaders finished with nine total shots, while CC launched seven.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Carlin did not have a save for UD, which slipped to 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the SCAC.

Colorado College wraps up its run of three consecutive road games at Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The Tigers play their first conference home game against Texas Lutheran University on Friday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. on Washburn Field.
