CC rebounds to defeat Trinity

Box Score The top two teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference went head-to-head on Saturday night, and for the second time this season, Colorado College came out on top.

Sophomore forward Chris Lesnansky poured in a game-high 19 points, grabbed six rebounds and tied his career high with five assists to lead CC to a 63-52 victory in front of a packed house at Reid gymnasium.

“We were very disappointed with the way we played last night,” Lesnansky said. “We needed everyone to step up tonight, and we did. This was a great win, and we had to have it because we've lost some games that we should have won.”

Colorado College was motivated by Friday night's lackluster performance against Southwestern University and energized by the support of the student body that filled the south stands.

“We were ready to go tonight,” said junior point guard Ryan Milne. “I've never see a crowd like that during my career. The student section really got our energy going.”

CC led by as many as six points during a defensive first half, but was unable to pull away and TU trimmed its deficit to 21-19 after Craig Saltarelli buried a 3-pointer with 37 seconds to play.

Colorado College took control of the game early in the second half with a 28-9 run. After senior forward Ian Rewoldt gave his team a 49-28 lead with 8:24 remaining, TU mounted a furious comeback and cut its 21-point deficit to 59-51 when junior forward Jonathan Wilt completed a three-point play with 1:59 to play.

CC answered with buckets by Lesnansky and Rewoldt to put an end to TU's comeback.

Rewoldt recorded his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

With the sixth of his seven assists, Milne became the fifth player in program history to record 300 or more in his career. Milne finished with 10 points; including a key long-range basket that gave his team a 59-48 lead with 2:15 to play.

Colorado College dominated the glass, recording a 40-28 advantage for its second largest margin of the season.

Trinity took its only lead at 10-9 when Saltarelli connected on a short jumper 8:35 into the game, but that lead lasted only 61 seconds when Lesnansky put the Tigers back in front with 9:57 remaining in the half.

Colorado College continues its five-game home stand next Saturday with a matinee against the University of Dallas that begins at noon.
