Austin College Men Fall at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College men's basketball team found itself in a big hole early and was unable to climb out, falling 84-71 at Centenary on Friday evening. The 'Roos are now 14-11 overall and 11-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

With the loss, the 'Roos are now locked in as the No. 2-seed in the SCAC Tournament next weekend, while the Gents will be the top seed in the bracket. Austin College fell behind 50-35 at halftime against Centenary on Friday, as the 'Roos shot just 37.1% from the field while the Gents knocked down 47.5% of their shots while also owning a 47-to-34 rebounding edge. Michael Holland scored 16 points in the game to pace Austin College, becoming just the 21st player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone for his career in the process.

Devin Roland added 15 points and nine rebounds, while Holland pulled down seven rebounds in the loss. Roman Strickland came off the bench to score 14 points, including 11 in the opening half. Centenary shot 52.9% from the field in the first half as they built their double-digit lead, but that margin proved to be too much for Austin College despite the Gents knocking down 40% from the field after the break, including just 1-of-10 from long distance. Roland scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half as the 'Roos attempted to overcome their halftime deficit.

Ty Prince and Cedric Harris each scored 17 to lead Centenary, with Harris adding a game-high 12 rebounds. Ralph Johnson chipped in 16 points for the Gents. Austin College is back in action tomorrow to close out the regular season in Houston, where they'll take on St. Thomas before heading to Kerrville for the conference tournament next weekend.
