Lacrosse Falls in Home Opener on Sunday to Southwestern

Shreveport- The Centenary lacrosse team dropped its home opener to the Southwestern University Pirates, 19-2, on Sunday afternoon in a battle of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foes at Mayo Field.

The Pirates (2-1) took an 11-0 halftime lead and then scored four goals each in the third and fourth periods. Centenary (0-3) scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter, the first by freshman Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) and the second by sophomore Dario Garcia (Dallas, Texas), who recorded his first-career goal.

The Pirates' Hudson Bearden won 22 of the game's faceoff opportunities and Southwestern finished with 56 shot attempts to Centenary's 13. Senior attacker Jacob Hamilton scored a career-high five goals, and Southwestern recorded 10 assists on its 19 goals.

Gents' Senior Goalie Thomas Siskron (Shreveport) played all 60 minutes and tallied a season-high 24 saves. Siskron now has 171 career saves and entered Sunday's game ranked second in the nation in saves per game and leader in the SCAC in that category. He ranked fifth in both save percentage and goals against average. 

Southwestern had a slight edge in ground balls, 29-22, and the teams combined for 18 turnovers. The Pirates goalkeeper Drew Alvarado collected three saves.

Centenary next hits the road again for a non-conference match at Hendrix in Conway, Ark. on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m.
