The Rhodes College baseball team defeated Oglethorpe University twice this afternoon, winning 3-2 in 10 innings and 6-5 in 7 innings.  Senior RHP Hunter Chandler collected his fourth victory in the first game and sophomore RHP James Todd improved to 4-0 in the second game.  Senior LF Matt Gilbert delivered the biggest blow in the first game with a solo homerun in the top of the 5th.  Junior CF Travis Perkins opened the game up for the Lynx with a 2 out 2 RBI double in the top of the 5th in the second game.  Rhodes is now 18-16 overall and 8-3 in SCAC play.

Junior RHP Austin Carden started the first game on the mound for the Lynx and was able to settle down after allowing 2 Oglethorpe runs in the bottom of the 1st as he went 7.2 innings, allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 5.  Carden handed the ball over to senior Hunter Chandler with 2 outs in the 8th before Chandler went the next 2.1 innings, allowing no runs, 1 hit, no walks, and struck out 2.

Senior LF Matt Gilbert was 2-4 at the plate with a homerun, run scored, RBI, and walked once.  Gilbert made a game saving diving catch to prevent a bases clearing double in the in bottom of the 4th.  Senior CF Andy Meier was 2-4 with a walk.  Freshman 2B Stewart Martens was 2-4 at the plate.  Senior 3B Kyle Peterson was 1-3 with a run scored and walked once.

Freshman RHP Strother White made his first collegiate start in the 2nd game working 2 innings, allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2.  Sophomore RHP James Todd relieved White in the top of the 3rd and would work the next 4 innings for the Lynx to earn his fourth victory of the year.  Todd allowed 3 hits, 2 unearned runs, 4 walks, and struck out 1 in his 4 innings of work.  Senior RHP Andy Meier collected his first save of the year, as he relieved Todd with runners on 1st and 2nd and no one out in the bottom of the 7th. 

Meier also led the Lynx offense going 2-4 at the plate and stole a base.  Sophomore DH Matt Burnick was 1-3 with a run scored.  Senior 3B Kyle Peterson was 1-3 with a run scored and drove in a run.  Senior C Matt Frank was 1-2 with a run scored, 2 RBIs, and walked twice.  Junior Travis Perkins was 1-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Rhodes and Oglethorpe will round out their 3 game conference series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00.
