The Colorado College women's swimming and diving team won 12 of 13 events Saturday on its way to a 183-60 victory over CSU-Pueblo at Schlessman Natatorium.
The Big Cats dominated the Division II Thunderwolves in the first home meet of the season. Three seniors,
Justina Zuckerman,
Emily Harrison and
Mary Rose Donahue, led the way with two individual wins apiece. Sophomore
Jio Chang joined the group as a two-time winner on Saturday.
"It was great to finally have a home competition for the first time this season," head coach
Anne Goodman James said. "I am very impressed with how we really showed up today, all across the board. Looking at the times that both teams had already gone so far this season, it should have been a much closer meet."
Zuckerman dominated the freestyle sprints, winning the 50- and 100-fresstyle events. Harrison captured the 1,000 freestyle race along with the 100 backstroke, and Donahue won both diving events, edging sophomore
Riley Wadehra in both, including a 1.27 point margin in the 1-meter event. Chang, meanwhile, won the 500 freestyle and 200 IM races.
The Tigers were strong in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay, as Zuckerman joined fellow seniors
Hannah Cooper and
Ellen Silk and freshman
Emily Erickson to win the race with a time of 1:54.04.
"The meet started with 3m diving, where we took 1-2-3, with Mary Rose and Riley just 1.27 points apart," Goodman James said. "That led into an exciting win for the Big Cats in the medley relay, and the trend just kept going. We managed a 1-2-3 finish in five events."
Silk (100 butterfly), sophomore
Selma Jukic (200 free) and freshman
Emileigh Rafidi (100 breaststroke) also posted an individual victory for the Big Cats.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Dec. 15 against Western State Colorado University, beginning at 5 p.m. at Schlessman Natatorium.
