Lynx Power Their Way to Victory

The Rhodes College defeated the visiting LaGrange College Panthers 16-12 this afternoon at Stauffer Field.  The Rhodes offense pounded out 16 hits, including homeruns by sophomore DH Matt Burnick and freshman 1B Patrick Kilkenny.  The Lynx put up 12 runs in the first three innings and were able to fight off several late rallies by Lagrange to earn their their 16th victory of the season.  Sophomore RHP James Todd collected his 3rd victory as freshman LHP Max Halasz earned his first save of the year.

Both teams got off to fast starts with the bats as they combined for 20 runs in the first 3 innings and a 12-8 Lynx lead.  After both teams failed to score in the 4th, LaGrange put up 1 in the 5th and Rhodes answered with 2, to make it a 14-9 in the favor of the Lynx.  Both teams added 2 runs a piece in the 6th to make it 16-11.  LaGrange finished off the scoring for both teams with a single run in the top of the 8th and make a 16-12 final.

Freshman RHP Jake Long go the start on the mound for the Lynx working 2.2 innings, allowing 8 runs on 7 hits, walking 2, and striking out 3.  Sophomore James Todd entered the game with 2 outs in the top of the 3rd and worked the next 3.1 innings.  On the day, Todd allowed 3 earned runs, on 2 hits, and walked 1.  Junior RHP Brian Lainoff entered the game in the top of the 7th and worked the next 1.2 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2.  Lainoff gave way to freshman LHP Max Halasz with 2 outs in the top of the 8th.  Halasz finished the game out for the Lynx as he did not allow a run or hit in his 1.1 innings of work and earn his first save of his collegiate career.

Senior CF Andy Meier was 4-4 on the day with a triple, run scored, drove in a run, walked once, and stole a base.  Freshman Patrick Kilkenny hit his first collegiate home run with 2 outs in the bottom of the third.  On the day, Kilkenny was 2-4 with a home run, double, 4 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and walked twice.  Sophomore SS Lynden Pindling was 1-3 with an RBI, 3 runs scored, 3 walks, and stole a base.  Senior RF Brent Lindsey was 2-4 with a double, 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored, 2 walks, and stole a base.  Sophomore DH Matt Burnick was 2-6 with a home run, 3 RBIs, and scored twice.  Freshman 2B Stewart Martens was 3-5 with an RBI, run scored, walked once, and stole a base.  Senior 3B Brogan Jayne was 1-3 with an RBI, run scored, and walked once.

Rhodes will return to action this weekend as they travel to Atlanta, GA to take on Oglethorpe University in a 3 game conference series.  First pitch is set for 4:00 on Saturday.
