IRVING, Texas - The Austin College tennis teams split their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at the University of Dallas on Saturday, with the women coming out on top 7-0 while the men dropped a 7-0 decision against the Crusaders.
IRVING, Texas - The Austin College tennis teams split their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at the University of Dallas on Saturday, with the women coming out on top 7-0 while the men dropped a 7-0 decision against the Crusaders.
The 'Roo women cruised to their third straight victory and fourth in their last five matches after sweeping doubles action, earning a win by default on line three while the team of Olivia Sanchez and Natalie Valle picked up a 6-1 win on line one and the duo of Bailey Standokes and Emma Davidson earned a 6-1 in playing number two doubles. That sweep sent Austin College into singles competition holding a 1-0 advantage over the Crusaders.
Austin College got two wins by default on lines five and six, and Standokes earned the match-clinching point playing flight one. Standokes picked up her line one singles victory by scores of 6-1, 6-0, and Valle was dominant on line four with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Sanchez added a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win on line two, and Davidson rounded out the scoring with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) line four victory.
On the men's side, the Crusaders took the point in doubles as Austin College defaulted on line three, and the team of Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner dropped a 6-3 line one match while Cruz Rocha and Joel Colunga were defeated 6-0 on line two.
Salyer was bested 0-6, 2-6 on line one in singles competition, while Fenner fell 1-6, 3-6 on line two and Colunga dropped a 2-6, 4-6 flight three match. Rocha lost his line four match by scores of 0-6, 1-6, and Austin College defaulted on lines five and six to make it a 7-0 final in favor of the Crusaders.
