Women's Soccer Battles to Draw at ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas - After two hours of lightning delays and a pair of overtime periods, the Austin College women's soccer team finished with a 1-1 draw against East Texas Baptist University on Wednesday night. The 'Roos are now 2-1-1 on the year.

East Texas Baptist controlled possession for much of the game, but Austin College's defense was able to turn the Tigers away throughout the second half. The 'Roos managed just one shot all game, but they made it count as Mack Bolen took advantage of a defensive miscue and intercepted a clearance from ETBU and put a shot into the net in the 39th minute of action to make it 1-0 at halftime.

The 'Roos held their one goal advantage until late in the second half, when ETBU was able to punch one in with under 15 minutes to play, sending the game into overtime all square at 1-1. Just one minute into the first overtime period, the Tigers were able to draw a penalty kick chance but Austin College keeper Maya Erwin made the save to keep the game tied. Neither team would manage to get much going offensively the rest of the way, leading to a 1-1 final score.

Erwin made eight saves for Austin College as the Tigers held a 23-to-1 shot advantage in the game. Austin College returns home on Friday, where they'll take on Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Dallas in what will be a non-conference matchup at 6:00 p.m.
