Pirates upend No. 5 Texas-Tyler on Tuesday night, 5-1

TYLER, Texas - Southwestern scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and three in the ninth to upend fifth-ranked Texas-Tyler 5-1 on Tuesday night at Irwin Field.

The Pirates (8-11) tallied nine hits in the non-conference tilt to win their second consecutive contest.

Ben Little's RBI double in the third inning broke the scoring seal. The Pirates doubled their advantage a frame later as Cole Kelly drove in Kevin Wallace on a single through the left side.

The Patriots (15-3) managed their lone run in the seventh on Brady McCoy's RBI double.

Southwestern loaded the bases in the ninth and proceeded to score three runs, including one on Little sacrifice fly to right field.

Little finished the game 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Kelly also had two hits and an RBI.

Colton Hunter (2-2) hurled seven innings and allowed only one run while scattering six hits to earn the victory. The right-hander also struck out four.

The Pirates will host Blackburn in a three-game series this weekend at Rockwell Field. The set opens at 6 p.m. Friday.
