Senior midfielder
Jackson Silverstein enjoyed setting up the game-tying goal so much that he couldn't wait to score one of his own. He didn't have to wait long.
Silverstein recorded an assist and struck for the game-winning goal in a span of 19 seconds to lift the Colorado College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Schreiner University on Saturday.
Despite have the majority of possession time and a significant territorial advantage, the Tigers fell behind when the Mountaineers broke through in the 59th minute on a goal by Dustin Scott.
However, just 74 seconds later, Colorado College leveled the score when Silverstein hit a first-time cross from the right sideline that
Kiran Singh finished with a first-time volley into the lower left corner.
Moments after Schreiner put the ball back in play, freshman defender
Alexander Ward placed a left-footed cross into the box that Silverstein finished with another first time volley into the lower left corner.
It proved to be the fourth game winner of Silverstein's career and it marked the second time he recorded a goal and an assist in the same game.
"The game was very difficult," head coach
Scott Palguta said. "The rain, wind, and muddy field made us adapt our style of play to a more direct approach, but we played very well overall.
"I thought our response to going down a goal was excellent. Our substitutes were once again difference makers and really changed the game in our favor when they were on the field."
After the Tigers took the lead, they only allowed three shots by the Mountaineers during the final 30 minutes.
CC finished the game with a 17-6 advantage in total shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Keleher Felton made three saves while improving to 2-1 for the season.
