TLU Defeats Schreiner 2-1

SEGUIN, TX -- Texas Lutheran Women's Soccer used an aggressive second half offensively to secure a 2-1 victory, their first conference win of the season, over Schreiner Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs allowed a Schreiner (0-11-2, 0-2-2) goal in the 11th minute and the Mountaineers carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Texas Lutheran responded in the second half as their offensive intensity elevated to a level to match what had been a strong defensive first half. Sophomore midfielder Kelly Wolfe (San Antonio/Churchill) scored her team-leading second goal in the 58th minute, heading in a perfectly placed corner kick by Samantha Martinez (Schertz/Clemens) for the equalizer. The Bulldogs (4-7-0, 1-1-0) took a 2-1 lead thanks to an unassisted game-winner from freshman Allison Avery (Houston/Cy Falls) in the 63rd minute. This is where the score would stay thanks to a hightented defensive effort from Texas Lutheran to close the match.

The Bulldogs outshot the Mountaineers 14-8 and had 5 shots on goal. Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) picked up the win in goal and fellow freshman goalkeeper Madison Johnson (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) faced the only two Schreiner shots on goal - saving one.

Texas Lutheran will next face St. Thomas (TX) on Friday, Oct. 15 in Houston. All live stream and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
