UD Men's Lacrosse Finishes Regular Season with Setback to Centenary on Senior Day

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team fell 18-8 to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent Centenary College on Saturday afternoon. After playing even in the first 15 minutes, the visiting Gents gave a nine-goal outburst in the second quarter thanks to five straight through nine minutes. UD got the margin down to five on a Matt Senter (Dallas, Texas) goal in the third to make it 10-5, but Centenary was able to maneuver too much, sharing the ball for 11 assists and taking a 61-37 advantage on shots.

The Gents claimed a 10-7 edge in shots in the first quarter, as well as a 12-11 edge in ground balls during that span. Neither team was gaining any points until at 3:31 when Mark Temple got Centenary on the board. UD's Austin Gibbons (St. Charles, Ill.) got the equalizer from Preston Thompson (Franklin, Tenn.) with 26 ticks left on the clock.

UD never was ahead, as after five minutes of scoreless action the Gents would gain a quartet of goals in exactly a two-minute span. Wikenson Julien put Centenary up at 10:01 and after back-to-back goals by Jordan Cook, Temple would strike the back of the twine at 8:01. UD's Thompson etched his third goal in as many games at 5:16, and then Centenary answered back with one from Dario Garcia.

UD would trail 10-4 at intermission. Senter, who finished with his second hat trick, both against Centenary, increased his season total of goals to a team-most nine, and has one in all appearances. That made things 10-5, but it was Centenary's game to control the rest of the way.

Gibbons notched a season-high four goals and logged 10 shots on cage and 12 overall. Gibbons led the squad in scoring and added an assist. Senter also had a hat trick with three goals and an assist. Thompson was the other goal scorer for Dallas and improved his assists category to three overall. Tommy Chadwick (Tampa, Fla.) logged nine ground balls and Chasen Reynolds (Fallbrook Calif.) followed with seven ground balls and dished two assists. Sam Dixon (Hurst, Texas) in his first start at goalkeeper this spring made 13 saves against 31 shots faced.

His counterpart Thomas Siskron grabbed 16 saves. Cook was the top Centenary scorer with five goals and added an assist. Temple dispatched four goals and a helper. Kyle Comi and Waniewski each had five points with the former taking two goals and three assists. Waniewski scored three times and dished a pair of assists.

Following the match, a quintet of Crusaders were recognized as part of "Senior Day." Reynolds, Chadwick, Senter, Dan McCrorey (Reno, Nev.), and Thompson formed the group.
