Chapman pushes No. 14-ranked Southwestern to four

ORANGE, Calif. - Three Panthers collected double digit kills for the Chapman University women's volleyball team in a 3-1 loss to No. 14-ranked Southwestern University (Texas) in the Hutton Sports Center on Friday night. Southwestern (20-2) extended its winning streak to five in the 25-23, 25-15, 25-22, 27-25 victory.

The Panthers battled closely with the Pirates in set one, switching leads four times before falling 25-23. In set two, Pirates senior Kaitlyn Foster had the hot hand, leading Southwestern to a 25-15 victory. Foster recorded a team-high of 19 kills, 20 digs and four blocks on the night.

The Panthers came out strong in set three taking an early lead to earn the 25-22 win, but ultimately fell short in set four after pushing the set to 27-25.

Chapman sophomore Kylie Cooke led the Panther offense with 18 kills in the match, while senior Michele Hammer recorded 12 and freshman Lindsey Johnson recorded a career-high of 11. Hammer also recorded 19 digs on the night to earn her seventh double-double of the season.

Once again, freshman Kaitlyn Raymundo controlled the passing game for the Panthers with 34 assists on the night.

The Panthers will host UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. before returning to SCIAC play on Tuesday, Oct. 20 for a match set at 7:30 p.m. against Caltech.
