Millikin Women Upset #8 DePauw 65-59

            For the second time this season the Millikin women's basketball team has defeated a team ranked in the Top 10 in Division III basketball.  The latest victim was #8 DePauw University 65-59 at Millikin's Griswold Center on Dec. 8.  DePauw entered the game ranked #8 in the WBCA USAToday poll and #10 in the latest D3hoops.com poll.  Millikin improves to 3-3 on the season while the Tigers go to 5-2.

            DePauw opened the game with a lead they built to as much as five points before the Big Blue answered back.  Millikin took its first advantage at the with 13:41 left in the first half and lead by as many as 10 points in the half before going to the locker room up 29-23.

            The two teams played fairly even in the second half with both teams having the lead.  Millikin went up 53-51 with 3:48 left to play.  After a couple of missed three pointers by the Tigers, Julia Robert put the Big Blue up 56-51 with 2:30 left with a three point basket.  Thirty seconds later Robert would give Millikin a six point advantage with another three pointer.  DePauw's Katie Mathews did her part to keep the Tigers in the game hitting two baskets and two free throws in the games final 40 seconds.  Mathews two free throws brought the Tigers to within two at 61-59 with 19 seconds left to play.

Wildman and Robert each converted two free throws to seal the victory for Millikin.

            Wildman lead Millikin with 22 points including going 8-11 from the field.  Robert had 15 points while Crystal Zeigler added 13.  Wildman had a team high seven rebounds.

            Mathews lead the Tigers in scoring with 18 points followed by Katie Aldrich with 12.  Alex Gasaway had a team high nine rebounds.

            Millikin shot 56.5 percent from the field while holding DePauw to 35 percent shooting.  The Tigers were 4-19 from three point range.  The Tigers won the battle on the boards 39-31.

            On Nov. 23, Millikin scored a road upset of then #3 Wisconsin-Stevens Point 73-71. 

            The Big Blue will host the Tri-Conference Tournament this weekend taking on Illinois College on Friday at 7:30 and Fontbonne University on Sunday at 3 p.m.
