CC Scores 11 Consecutive Goals In 22-8 Win Over Adams State

The Colorado College men's lacrosse team exploded for 11 consecutive goals in a little more than 15 minutes during the first half and cruised to a 22-8 victory over Adams State University on Saturday afternoon at Washburn Field.

After Jacob Austin gave the Grizzlies a 3-2 lead with 4:20 remaining in the first quarter, the Tigers regained the lead when Jacob Smith and Anders Erickson scored 16 seconds apart. It appeared CC would take a one-goal lead into the second quarter, but Elliot Nelson and Erickson each scored in a span of 10 seconds, with Erickson's goal occurring as time expired to give the Tigers a 6-3 cushion and all of the momentum.

In the second quarter, Erickson scored three more goals, two while CC was playing a man up, and Makay Hansen added a pair as the Tigers extended their lead to 13-3 before Austin got won back for ASU with an extra-man goal 2:05 before halftime.

Colorado College outscored Adams State 8-1 to open the second half before the Grizzlies answered with three in row during the fourth quarter.

"We were a little slow to start today, but once we got rolling we really looked good," head coach Sean Woods said. "We looked really strong in our early offense and we were really good in the ride. Our attack was explosive and we had another dominant day by our face-off and wing players.

"After the first 10 minutes, our defense really dialed in and was strong throughout. It was great to have everyone on the roster contribute to a nice win."

Erickson led the Tigers with seven goals and four assists. Hansen scored four times and added a pair of assists, while Nelson struck for four goals and set up another.

Winston Chodnicki won 16 of 19 faceoffs and shared the team lead with six ground balls.

Colorado College won 25 of 31 faceoffs and amassed a 40-17 advantage in ground balls.
