Men's Soccer picked up their second conference win of the season with a convincing three goal victory over Schreiner University.
The start of the first half was slow, as both teams played into their groove. In his second shot of the game, Heiko Leinweber would strike first for the Celts. His 25th minute header was set up by a beautifully placed cross from Maxwell Lockhart. To finish the period, UST's defense took care of business, allowing only two shots during the first 45 minutes.
The second half was filled with UST chances. They were able to put up eight shots and remained in the attack for the majority of the period. A relatively close game had the Celts on their heels until they were able to stretch their one goal lead to three in the blink of an eye. In the final five minutes of the match, Wilberth Araujo and Gabe Salako netted their first goals of the season. Araujo's came in the 85th minute of a Salako assist in which he threaded the needle to sneak his shot past the keeper. To close the door on the Mountaineers, Salako was set up by Tom Hultsch and for his breakaway goal.
"We played really well today, scoring three goals. We haven't scored three goals all season, and to have it in one game is awesome" Head Coach Ian Clerihew said. "We need to keep this momentum going into Saturday."
The Celts will play their third match in six days this Saturday when they take on Centenary College.
